The Mavericks moved to 2-0 in district 16-5a play, besting Vista Ridge 57-42 at the Ranger gym Friday
night.
Behind Anthony Davenport and LC Alexander, the Mavericks, running the fast break to perfection, raced
out to a 16-7 first quarter lead and made it seem like the Mavericks already had the game in hand. The
Rangers though had other ideas.
Opening the second quarter, Vista Ridge began pounding the ball inside to their big men, and not only
scored but got the Mavericks Javian Johnson in early foul trouble with two. The Mavericks though still
held a 29-18 first half lead.
Johnson quickly picked up his third personal foul with 5:54 left in the third quarter and had to watch both
teams score 10 points in the quarter, giving the Mavericks a 39-28 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
A three-point play by Kenny Lewis and put back by Johnson to start the fourth quarter pushed the
Mavericks lead to 44-28, and the Mavericks were on their way to their 17 win in 21 tries.
Johnson still lead the Mavericks with 18 points, while Alexander and Davenport finished with 14 and 12
respectively.
The Mavericks now prepare to take on district foe Leander, who earlier this year beat the Mavericks in the
finals of the Hays Classic, at the Mavericks gym this Tuesday night.
