Just take it a game at a time.  This commonly used slogan in the sports world applied to the Mavericks in its
57-31 win over Vista Ridge at the Mavericks gym Friday night.  Currently tied with Leander and facing the
Lions this coming Tuesday night for the district lead, the Mavericks certainly didn't look past Vista Ridge
in anticipation of its district showdown with the Lions.

The Mavericks raced out to a 18-7 first quarter lead, and eventually led 31-12 at half time.

Vista Ridge outscored the Mavericks in the third period 14-9,  giving the Mavericks a 40-26 lead after
three quarters.

The Mavericks though got the offense rolling and turned up its pressure defense in the fourth quarter, and
went on to the easy 57-31 win.

"Yes We Can".  Something the Mavericks need to be telling themselves as they prepare for the showdown
with Leander.  Leander has already defeated the Mavericks twice this season, and have to believe that the
"Third time will be the charm",  if they are to defeat the Lions at the Lions gym.

A win by either team gives them the outright district 16-5A lead, while a loss drops them  into a two-way tie
for second with Georgetown,  with four games left to play.
