Good things can come in small packages!  Anthony Davenport, the Mavericks diminutive senior point
guard and last year's district 14-5A's MVP, put the Mavericks on his back and powered them to a 61-58 win
over Round Rock in a hotly contested 16-5A district affair at the Mavericks gym Tuesday night.

Round Rock came out firing on all cylinders in the first quarter and raced out to a quick 9-0, before
Davenport warmed up.  At the 4:10 mark, he scored the Mavericks first basket, making it 9-2 Round Rock.
The Mavericks defense stiffen,  and watched Davenport go to work on offense.  At 3:08, he connected on a
three from deep in the left corner, making it 9-5 Round Rock.  Another three, this time from the right
corner, made it 9-8 Round Rock.  Round Rock held the lead at 13-12 until Davenport dropped a jumper on
the Dragons at the buzzer, giving the Mavericks a 15-13 first quarter lead.

Davenport extended the Mavericks lead to 18-13 following yet another three at the beginning of the second
quarter, and led the Mavericks to a 29-26 lead at halftime.

Leading 48-46 after three quarters,  the Mavericks caught a break at the beginning of the fourth.
Davenport lost the ball on his dribble to the basket, only to see the ball bounce between the legs of a Dragon
defender into the waiting arms of Javian Johnson for an easy put back, and a 50-46 Maverick lead.  A three
by the Dragons made it 50-49, but Davenport quickly matched the Dragons three with one of his own,
extending the Maverick lead to 53-49 with 4:29 left to play.

The Mavericks held a slim 57-56 lead over the Dragons with 1:25 left in the game until Davenport hit both
ends of a one-an-one  for a 59-56 lead with .50 seconds left.    The Dragons made it 59-58, only to see, who
else, Davenport finish off his best night of this  season by connecting on both ends of a one-an-one for a
61-58 Maverick lead with .14 seconds left.

The Dragons had a chance to tie, but went inside looking for and failed on a quick score, rather than hoist a
potential game-tying three as time expired.

Davenport finished with a season-high 30 points;  followed by Johnson's 13 points.  LC Alexander chipped
in with 12 points.

With the win, the Mavericks stay atop district 16-5A with a 5-1 record, and prepare to take on Stony Point
at the Tigers gym Friday night.
