A win is a win, no matter how you get it!!  The Mavericks held on and defeated Georgetown 42-41 Friday
night at the Maverick gym in the district opener for both teams.

Leading 40-33 with 6:26 left in the fourth quarter, the Mavericks decided to implement its passing game,
but seemed to forget that shooting the ball is still part of the game.  And as sometimes is the case, passing
the ball without shooting the ball can let a team get back in the game, and Georgetown did just that.

The Eagle defense forced several turnovers, and watched the Mavericks miss four consecutive free throws
over a five minute span, to close the gap to 40-38 with 1:10 left in the game.

The Mavericks continued its stall, but suddenly Javian Johnson saw an opening for an easy layup to make it
42-38 Mavericks with 55 seconds left.  Georgetown quickly scored with 30 seconds left, making the score
42-40, Mavericks.

Georgetown stole the inbounds pass, and after a Mavericks foul, went to the  line to shoot one and one,
connecting on the first, but missing the second.  Anthony Davenport was fouled and went to the line for two
but missed both shots with six seconds left.

Johnson then returned the favor and stole a pass from the Eagles to secure the win.

The Mavericks travel to Boerne Texas to take part in the Boerne Champion Tournament December 29-30.
