Start strong.   Finish strong.  That's what the Mavericks did Tuesday night at the Mavericks gym,  in taking
a 55-36 win over the Connally Cougars.  In one of the better quarters the Mavericks have played this
season, the Mavericks, behind  Kyle Martin's six first quarter points,  went for the quick knockout in
marching to a 20-4 first quarter lead,  punctuated by a 35-footer by Kenny Lewis at the buzzer.

Connally though didn't get rattled.  The Cougars doubled up the Mavericks in scoring 14-7 in the second
quarter, but still trailed the Mavericks 27-18 at half time.

The third quarter saw both teams score nine points, and still had the Mavericks leading 36-27.

In the fourth, the Mavericks revved things up again.  A steal and subsequent basket by Anthony Davenport
and two back to back jumpers by LC Alexander gave the Mavericks a 42-32 lead with 5:52 to play.
Davenport then completed a three-point play pushing the Mavericks lead to 45-32.    Javian Johnson took
over from there, scoring the Mavericks next three baskets, giving the Mavericks a 51-36 lead at the 1:56
mark.

The Mavericks then went into their delay game, and secured the victory.  Johnson led the Mavericks with
13 points; while Davenport and Alexander each finished with 11.

The Mavericks complete non-district play with a 11-4 mark, and now prepare for their first district game of
the season against Georgetown at the Mavericks gym this Friday night.
