There's a saying that goes, "You can't keep a good man down." For Kenny Lewis and the
Mavericks, it was never more apparent during the 2009-2010 season opener against the
Anderson Trojans Monday night.
Lewis got up off the deck after taking a wicked shot to the head early in the fourth quarter,
to lead the Mavs to a 63-61 thrilling overtime win against the scrappy Trojans.
With four seconds left in regulation and the Mavs trailing 54-52, Lewis forced an errant
in-bound Trojan pass; picked up the deflection, and scored to tie the game at 54 and send
the game to overtime.
In overtime, same scenario. Mavs trailing 61-60 with 22 seconds left. Lewis guarding the
inbound pass, was able to deflect the ball again. Hayden Worrell got the deflection; passed
the ball to Lewis who was then fouled going to the basket. Lewis calmly stepped to the line
to sink both free throws giving the Mavs a 62-61 lead with 10 seconds left, helping secure
the Mavs win.
Lewis led the Mavs in scoring with 23. Blair Williams tossed in 16 and Hayden Worrell
chipped in 12.
The Mavs travel to Del Valle this Friday for a 7:15 pm contest.
